South Africa’s Murray & Roberts Construction (M&R) declared on Wednesday 22 February 2017 that a German company had bought a 25% controlling share in the company. This new german Shareholder is now the largest shareholder in this engineering & construction group. So where to from here – M&R are yet to establish what the new shareholders plans are. This new dominant shareholder previously held 4.49% but now owns 25.5% of all M&R’s total ordinary capital shares. As a result, M&Rs shares are currently up by 2%. Recent shareholder that exited include Coronation which sold their 15% last week as well as Allan Gray and Sanlam Investment Management had also sold off their interest in M&R on Tuesday. M&R’s largest shareholder is now Germany’s ATM Holdings GmbH, that own 25.5% shareholding in the M&R engineering and construction group. ATM, is owned by private investment holding company ATON GmbH, which has a history of investing in the mining, engineering, aviation and health technology sectors.
